AUM Apparel Knits.

AUM apparel is a labor of love created by Aurelie Martin-Chiari, who has maintained her passion for ethically made clothes while staying true to her personal brand ofeclectic flair. Aurelie was born in France and found her passion for designing clothes through her mother, who hand made all of her figure skating costumes. She found herself living in San Francisco, at the heart of Haight - Ashbury in her teens, while attending a French high school. It was shortly after this that she decided to pursue her passions at the Academy of Art University, SF.

Aurelie has always stayed true to her roots, providing high quality and original pieces while keeping function and longevity in mind. She is an activist for the ethically made movement as well as a business owner and mother outside of her successful clothing line.

We chose her unique and high quality knits for SHOP WELL for three reasons.

ONE) A good sweater will never go out of style.

TWO) they are hand knit, soft and worth every damn penny. You will never want to take it off.

THREE) AUM apparel works directly in collaboration with Green Links Design, a sustainable fair trade knitwear company that works with local Peruvian artisans to develop their independent businesses or supplement their income by knitting from home. The result is a superbly made sweater that you can feel good about buying and wearing.

There are few things as timeless as good sweater, and knowing that the cost is helping support someone else in their craft not only feels right, it IS right.

If a sweater is not your thing, check out the rest of their line which ranges from crop tops to vintage inspired velvet bells. All made in the USA.

CRADLE JEWELRY

Born in California to a German mother and a Southwestern folk singer father, Sonia Marie Mitchell had an early start drawing inspiration from diverse places. As an avid dancer, and artist her curiosity led her to a nomadic lifestyle. She has spent time in Europe, Brazil and Cuba, and lived in Berlin, Portland and San Francisco. She is currently based in Brooklyn, New York and draws her inspiration from the people, art and culture she has encountered.

“Jewelry was always a medium I was strongly drawn to”, says Sonia “It allows me to put work into the world that is transmutable and is unique to the wearer, acting as a vehicle for their own individual style and personality. There is something about that malleable quality that speaks to me.”

After formal jewelry fabrication training in New York and time working in the fashion industry in Manhattan, Sonia was compelled to launch her own line. In early 2014 Cradle was born.

What makes CRADLE a favorite is that Sonia isn’t just falling into the niche jewelry line without defining herself. CRADLE is a direct representation of Sonia’s interests, experiences and insight.  She is sharing all of these through her wearable creative expression.

CRADLE is not only definite and streamlined in its design and nature, reflecting the ever present natural attraction we have to geometric symbology, but its a way to communicate through simplicity, minimalism and quality.

Starting out small on the West coast in Portland, Cradle has expanded East to New York. The line is inspired by the abstract symbols and shapes humans have used for thousands of years to communicate, providing new abstract shapes that the wearer can imbue with meanings all their own. “While of course there’s a lot of work that goes into Cradle behind the scenes, I like to allow the collection to speak for itself”, says Sonia.

Her pieces are chic, modern, and native all the same - you’ll find it hard to not add them to your cart or wish list as you browse her shop.

MEOW MEOW TWEET

With a company name that’s as charming as it is impossible to forget, Meow Meow Tweet was founded in Brooklyn in 2009 by Tara Pelletier and Jeff Kurosaki. The pair, who met in art school in Michigan, possess an innate openness and curiosity that led them to wonder why a gift of handmade goat’s milk soap left their skin feeling so much better than a commercial bar. Together, they set out to learn everything they could about making soap at home. The result was a creamy, skin-nourishing formula that received accolades from family & friends. Bolstered by the positive feedback, they went on to found their all natural vegan apothecary Meow Meow Tweet, named for their two beloved cats and Jeff’s bird.

From soap to nontoxic insect repellant and deodorant cream to a complete facial regime, Meow Meow Tweet is committed to creating pure, all natural, plant and mineral-based formulas. Drawing on Tara’s background as a chef, all goods are developed as if they were modern culinary dishes. Taking care to thoughtfully source all ingredients for the highest level of efficacy, Tara and Jeff infuse each product with beautiful scents that never overpower. All products are made with organic, raw plant oils and butters, steam-distilled and cold-pressed essential oils and organic or wild-crafted botanicals. Priding themselves on being a vegan brand, they use absolutely no animal-derived ingredients, so all formulas are free of carmine, beeswax, honey, palm oil, lanolin and tallow. Meow Meow Tweet is Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certified.

We love their skin sensitive face cleanser that rubs on like a milky oil, to give you an idea of the texture, and gets our face SUPER clean. I feel like this sort of moisturizing facial cleanser is a key for the cold fall and winter months, allowing us to retain some of whats lost while still getting the results we want, even with cleansing.

Another product we love is the all natural deodorant they carry.  Listen, I don't know about you - but after I hit 25 I felt like I was at a loss when it came to natural deodorant working, yet I was terrified of the real thing and the possible repercussions of use. Sooo with that being said, we can all say a big "AMEN." when it comes to their lavender deodorant cream, because this little jar of love does its job.

A few words before use though, It takes some getting used to, but you get about a dime sized amount and rub it into your pits via fingers. Yes, it feels weird if you're used to using a stick, but who cares - you smell like a french garden and, again, IT WORKS. You're welcome.

Apotheke

APOTHEKE is a Hand Made natural skin + Body company based out of Brooklyn, New York. Founded by Chrissy Fichtl and Sebastian Picasso, who reside in Brooklyn with their one year old baby and two mini dachshunds.

They are focused on creating authentic products, with local roots, and high quality ingredients. Everything is hand made and Hand packaged, insuring top quality and oversight over every item sent out. They are passionate about community and the earth, and providing a service and product that will inspire you to feel passionate about the same.

For all these reasons we love APOTHEKE , but we are genuinely elated by a few of their products in particular. The Charcoal Shampoo and Conditioner. Now this isn't an everyday shampoo and conditioner, it could loosely be coined as a clarifying or detoxing set, but far more gentle in approach.  Now for the reason you want this in your shower. You go outside right? And use other products in your hair from oil to dry shampoo? Do you wash your hair with a "specialty" shampoo, be it natural or not? TADA, you want a clarifying shampoo.

APOTHEKE's sulfate free CHARCOAL SHAMPOO is a good for every hair type, and the Activated Charcoal Powder neutralizes acidity and absorbs impurities.  Basically to sum it up, using this 1-2 days a week will make your hair feel healthier, have more body, get rid of build up and do a little scalp sweep, if you will. (its also a great base for a hair masque to meet full potential, FYI)
